Saudade, romantic, bold, deeply authentic photographs

‘Saudade’: a yearning for one’s childhood, when the days would merge into one another and the passing of time was of no consequence. It is the sense of being loved in a way that will never come again. It is a unique experience of abandon. It is everything that words cannot capture.
— Nina George, The Little Paris Bookshop

You’re here! I’m so glad.

If you’ve found your way to my little corner of the Internet, chances are you’re a little glam, little rebellious, and you deeply love and care about the people in your life. You can’t help but make sure everyone around you is having a good time.

While planning your wedding, you’re probably at this crossroads a LOT: “How do I make my wedding feel unique and modern, but still honor the traditions that are important to me and my family? Do I want or need all these traditions?”

I feel you! This very issue had me so stressed when I planned my wedding six years ago. I wanted my friends and family to have a great time and feel comfortable, but I also wanted my wedding to feel like me and my husband.

What and how...

Photos should do more than 'document' or 'capture'. They should reveal.

A thing that you see in my pictures is that I was not afraid to fall in love with these people.

You made me see my son and I as a family for the first time.

Photography can be a hot button issue at this crossroads – Do I need all those formal photos? Do I like the style that’s currently trending on Instagram? Should I take time away from my family and friends for photos with my new husband or wife?

My name is Melissa, and I can help. I love pugs, coffee, travelling, street art, and anything delightfully weird. I nannied, studied philosophy for six years, and was the Editor of a national magazine, but I was truly, way deep down, always an artist.

I live to create photos that you’ll still love when you show them to your nieces and nephew, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, or when the two of you want to remember your wedding day. The reasons you’ll love them? They won’t be trendy. They’ll showcase who you are and who you love. They’ll remind you of all the love you felt – for each other, for your friends and family, and for yourself on your wedding day.
